The Memorandum of Understanding Exchange Ceremony between Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) and the Hong Kong Extended Reality Association (HKXRA) was hosted on 5 November 2024, marking a new milestone in the co-operation between HKSYU and HKXRA in fostering innovation and nurturing future talents equipped with cutting-edge XR skills.
The MOU was exchanged by Mr Edgar So, Associate Professor of Practice and Director of Industrial Attachment of HKSYU, and Mr Dino Fung, Member of HKXRA. It was witnessed by Dr Jason Chow, Vice President (University Administration) of HKSYU, and Mr Terry Dao, Founder and President of HKXRA.
Dr Jason Chow of HKSYU expressed in his speech that to cultivate talents in the creative industry, collaboration between academic institutions and the industry is necessary to provide students with a learning environment that emphasises both theory and practice. He also hoped to initiate more new collaborative projects, further applying extended reality and artificial intelligence in various fields, including cultural conservation, psychological counselling, multimedia production, game design, etc.
Mr Terry Dao of HKXRA stated that Hong Kong, being a global hub, is conveniently located to acquire diverse knowledge and talents, and that this is particularly advantageous for the development of extended reality (XR) content creation in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. He also said that HKXRA would provide numerous internship opportunities and nurture future talents, to offer creative solutions in XR for various industries.
Under the MOU, HKSYU and HKXRA will collaborate on professional internships for HKSYU students studying Media Design and Immersive Technology, Arts, Culture & Technology, as well as Applied Data Science. The MOU will also facilitate collaborations between the two parties to foster the advancement of the XR sector in Hong Kong. This includes research collaborations, industry-focused workshops, and cross-industry partnerships to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a regional hub for XR innovation.
