Bevan Yip, a Year 4 Finance and Technology student, had the opportunity to work as a Finance Intern at the Kowloon Shangri-La this summer. Let’s hear from Bevan about how this internship has helped him prepare for his future career.
“My credit-bearing internship at the Finance Shared Service Centre (FSSC) of the Kowloon Shangri-La involved assisting in the accounts receivable function for two hotels and conducting daily tasks such as refund processing, verifying refund amounts, payment confirmation batch processing, and trial balancing.
This internship offered me the opportunity to hone my practical and technical skills. I utilised CMD and Python to optimise my work processes, ensuring high-quality and high-quantity outputs. My understanding of various payment methods has also been enhanced. I became familiar with software platforms such as DMS and Oracle, which played a key role in identifying discrepancies or missing values. Juggling with multiple tasks during my internship, I have learned how to effectively prioritise my tasks, manage my time, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
My academic background in financial technology provided a solid foundation for my internship work. As a Fintech student, I witnessed how technology could streamline the refund process. This hands-on experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of Fintech and inspired me to delve deeper into this field in both my studies and future career. Despite encountering some challenges, I found the overall internship experience rewarding. It affirmed my interest in pursuing a career in financial technology, and I am excited to continue learning and growing in this dynamic field.”
