Jaime Lin, a current Year 4 Social Work student, completed a credit-bearing placement with the Community Family Services of Ontario in Toronto last summer as a student counsellor. Let’s hear what she has to share.
“This placement was an incredibly valuable experience that allowed me to acquire essential counselling skills and gain insights into the welfare system in Canada. Interacting with different people allowed me to appreciate and embrace different cultures, fostering moments of mutual understanding and cultural exchange. As a student counsellor, I witnessed the transformative power of narrative therapy for both clients and practitioners. This first-hand experience reinforced my belief in empowerment work and therapeutic interventions. On the other hand, visiting social service agencies in Ontario was inspiring. Their innovative ideas and passion for work left a lasting impression on me. Looking ahead, I am eager to bring back the knowledge, skills, and ideas that I have learned during this placement to Hong Kong. My future goal is to contribute to the enhancement of social services with innovative approaches”
